2012 marks both the 50th anniversary of Samoa’s independence and the 50th anniversary of the unique Treaty of Friendship between New Zealand and Samoa. www.SAMOA2012.co.nz, facilitated by the Pacific Cooperation Foundation, includes a calendar year of events, captures the celebrations, finds out what the Treaty of Friendship means to high profile Samoans in New Zealand and brings together news and views in New Zealand, Samoa and Samoan communities around the globe in celebration of this milestone.

Last week marked fifty years since the signing of the Treaty of Friendship between Samoa and New Zealand. The visit to Samoa by the New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon John Key and his accompanying high-level delegation to celebrate that occasion reflects the special nature of the relationship between our two countries as defined in that Treaty.
